Who’s who of AI booked for Singularity South Africa Summit


It’s expected to be the largest gathering of experts in the fields of AI, decentralised identity, web3, metaverse and crypto tech on African soil, and it takes place on 21 and 22 October 2024 at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg.

The much-anticipated Singularity Summit, presented in collaboration with Old Mutual, has announced 10 new speakers from around the world who will delve into diverse topics ranging from AI in the workplace and classroom to new breeds of disruptive technology that will change the way we view human longevity; technologies that will reshape ESG and sustainability.

More than 1 500 delegates are expected to attend the summit, which aims to equip business leaders with the knowledge and insights needed to future-proof Africa and empower the continent to achieve an abundant future.

Among the new speakers to join the line-up are:

  • Sandy Carter, chief operating officer at Unstoppable Domains, a world leader in the emerging field of digital identity;
  • Evan Luthra, Forbes 30 Under 30, visionary entrepreneur and NFT enthusiast who was named Angel Investor of the Year at Indian Blockchain Week;
  • Mic Mann, co-CEO of Singularity South Africa;
  • Brian Armstrong, professor of digital business at Wits Business School and interim executive director of the Centre for Technological Transformation in Africa;
  • Brian Armstrong; co-CEO of Singularity South Africa;
  • Jania Okwechime, partner for data analytics and AI leader at Deloitte West Africa;
  • Dhesen Ramasamy, chief technology and data officer at Old Mutual;
  • Celiwe Ross, director of group strategy, sustainability, people and public affairs at Old Mutual;
  • Angela Shurina, executive coach at Coach360 and founder of Your Best Coaching; and
  • Rapelang Rabana, founder of ReKindle Learning and co-CEO of Imagine Worldwide.

World-renowned expert in exponential leadership, business disruption and exponential technology David Roberts will deliver the closing keynote. Roberts holds a Harvard MBA and an MIT degree in computer science and engineering, where he was the first to major in AI (and bio-computer engineering), guided by Professor Joseph Weizenbaum, a pioneer of AI and creator of Eliza, the first programme that enabled a plausible conversation between humans and machines.

Already announced speakers at the Singularity Summit include Emad Mostaque, founder of Stability.ai and Stable Diffusion, as well as protein specialist Arturo Elizondo, data wizard Dr Mark Nasila, and Taddy Blecher, founder and CEO of the Maharishi Invincibility Institute.

Also joining the line-up are Rajesh Pasungili, CEO of Resolute Education; Benjamin Rosman, professor of machine learning and robotics; and Carlo van de Weijer, general manager of the Eindhoven AI Systems Institute at Eindhoven University of Technology.
