Why you should review the recruitment process prior to launching each vacancy.

Having a clear recruitment strategy, and a streamline recruitment process is crucial if you want to ensure that your business is efficient and is attracting and securing the best candidates. Having a slow or disjointed recruitment process will undoubtedly result in increased candidate drop out and increased costs to the business.

Reviewing your recruitment process before launching each and every vacancy can help your business in several ways, enabling you to build high performing teams as efficiently and effectively as possible. A review prior to launching each vacancy can:

1. Identify any potential roadblocks that will slow the process down.

Questions you might want to ask are:

  • Is each stage of the recruitment process necessary, and proportionate to this specific vacancy?
  • Can we eliminate any steps from the recruitment process, and save time and/or money?
  • Is any critical person on holiday / or unavailable for any stage or the recruitment process, or is there any event planned which is likely to lead to delays before the process is concluded?

2. Identify the likelihood of the recruitment campaign being successful.

Questions you might want to ask are:

  • Is this an attractive opportunity?
  • Have we benchmarked the role against our competitors / similar roles locally?
  • Is the package, bonuses and benefits attractive and are they visible to the candidates?
  • Are we an attractive company to potential candidates?
  • Are we showcasing what is good about our company on careers pages, blogs, social media etc?
  • Are we offering a compelling reason for candidates to apply for the role?

3. Do we have the right resources in place?

Questions you might want to ask are:

  • Where and how are we planning on advertising the role?
  • Are we working with the right external recruitment partners?
  • Do we have access to the right platforms for this specific role?

3. Reduce dropout rates

Questions you might want to ask are:

  • Does the process provide a good experience for candidates and include regular touchpoints for all applicants?
  • Do we have a process to maintain contact during the notice period?
  • Do we have a proportionate onboarding process in place?
